Polymer Clay Turquoise: Free Tutorial
Create convincing Persian blue turquoise with realistic color variation, dark matrix lines, and optional flashes of imitation pyrite.
Materials and tools
- Turquoise-colored polymer clay
- Translucent polymer clay
- Small amounts of black and dark-brown polymer clay
- Alcohol inks
- Black or dark-brown acrylic paint
- Imitation gold leaf, optional
- Isopropyl alcohol and water
- Sharp blade and chopping blade
- Small paintbrushes and work tile
- Wet/dry sandpaper, optional
- Translucent liquid clay and heat gun, optional
Technique overview
Blend turquoise and translucent clay, divide it into several particle sizes, and color selected groups with alcohol ink or acrylic paint. Let the pieces dry completely, layer them with chopped host-rock clay and optional gold leaf, then compress the stack without reducing it like a cane. Slice, shape, cure, and finish by sanding or applying liquid clay.
